The fast growing Lingerie Football League has appointed Triumph Media Group as its exclusive and long term media rights partner earlier this year to inaugurate its ambitious international growth plans. Now, the first LIVE matches are being broadcasted outside of the United States.
The idea of a women’s 7-on-7 tackle Amercian football league originates back to the “Lingerie Bowl”, which was first played as a sponsorship activation event in the half-time show of the NFL Super Bowl 2003. Its success was so significant that it has been established as a standalone and prestigious pay-per-view event since, throughout the halftimes of ensuing Super Bowls.
In 2009 the event was expanded into a league, played in the regular arenas of NBA, NHL or college teams, mostly trained by former NFL and NCAA coaches. The players are recruited out of more traditional college sports such as Basketball, Soccer, LaCrosse, Volleyball or fitness training and built into the teams during extensive off-season training camps.
As of 2011 the LFL has grown to twelve profitable franchises competing in 27 games over 24 weeks for their participation in the Lingerie Bowl on Super Bowl weekend. Entering this third season of existence LFL and its media rights partner Triumph Media Group are starting the first LIVE broadcasts outside of the United States. Broadcast agreements have already been secured in Canada, Mexico, Portugal, France, Scandinavia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Slovenia, Australia and Japan with further territories expected to join in the coming weeks.
All matches are transmitted in HD with cutting edge graphics, commentary, wired players and ancillary magazine shows. There are also plans to add 3D production for the next season.
